According to scientists, global carbon dioxide emissions are on the rise and are set to hit record highs in 2012.

Emissions of the most significant greenhouse gas from burning fossil fuels are said to have risen to 35.6 billion tonnes.

Carbon emissions this year alone will be 58% higher than in 1990 revealed research in the journal ‘Nature Climate Change’.

Researchers have warned that unless a united global effort is made, the goal of limiting temperature rises by 2C and avoiding climate change will become impossible.
