A government who manages by crisis – Anġlu Farrugia
The Labour Party Congress held at Ta' Qali came to an end this evening with a Mass Meeting held at the same place.
Deputy leader Anglu Farrugia held that the present government lacks a social soul because it is a government that burdened society with harsh austerity measures, due to wrong decisions and clique biased investments, and it was a government that wasted the last four years battling several internal conflicts.
Dr Farrugia argued that after abandoning St Luke's hospital and spending every penny on the building of Mater Dei, the government realized that this has led to a shortage of beds. "This government has no vision and has lost track, this government treats everyone as a number and only gets concerned about citizens every five years", he said.
He said the PL has been opening its doors to all is a direct contrast with GonziPN who in March last year in Parliament said that he will vote against the LP motion to decrease the electricity bills, 'with all his heart'. Quoting a report in the local media Dr Farrugia said that in Sliema, Lawrence Gonzi had promised that if the price of crude oil rises the government will not burden the public with more bills, yet the rise in oil price was reflected in the fuel prices at the pumps.
The government, led by Lawrence Gonzi has allowed modern day slavery to grow rife on the island, and the only solution is a change spearheaded by Joseph Muscat, Dr Farrugia held. This change will promote the environment, address all the injustices and poverty, and create a link of trust between the government and society, and not a government who believes in managing by crisis. “Anyone who maliciously has taken actions which led to bad management and losses for the country will be made to answer for his actions according to the laws of Malta", Farrugia said.
The Deputy Leader concluded that the only way forward for Malta is a movement which is by the people, for the people and with the people.
