Gozo fast ferry studies in final stages
The Ministry for Gozo is in the final stages of studies conducted to evaluate the possibility of a fast ferry service between Malta and Gozo.
Anton Refalo, the Minister for Gozo said this morning that the studies evaluated the impact that the fast ferry service would have on Gozo Channel which employs and significant number of people.
Speaking on One TV, Minister Refalo said that the fast ferry would carry passengers only and no vehicles to lessen the impact on Gozo Channel. The Prime Minister was in favour of this, Dr Refalo said.
An expression of interest will be issued in June for the operation of a scheduled air service and a fast ferry service between Malta and Gozo to improve connectivity between the islands.
The Minister also said that studies were also being conducted on the possibility of an alternative road linking Mgarr Harbour and Xewkija but the environment had to be kept in mind all the time.
