GWU says complaints about workers’ health safety were confirmed
The complaints made by the Professionals, Finance and Services Section within the General Workers’ Union regarding the dangerous environment the employees of the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA) were confirmed when due to the heavy rainfall that hit the Maltese Islands earlier this week, part of the asbestos roof of the Head Office Building in Blata l-Bajda fell and is in need of being repaired, GWU said.
The Professionals, Finance and Services Section also published a statement where it mentioned the excessive noise to which the MCCAA employees who work at the Mosta offices are exposed.
The Section is acknowledging that the MCCAA had taken steps regarding the asbestos, and indicated that it would regularly monitor the situation, the employees have been waiting for someone to inform them about what was going to happen for months.
Meanwhile yesterday on the national station during a TV programme about the protection of health and safety on the workplace, General Secretary Tony Zarb referred to these particular complaints and said it was not fair for the employees to be in the dark on what will happen.
