Lewis Hamilton and Vodafone Chief Executive Balesh Sharma arrived in style at Paqpaqli ghall-Istrina today presenting a check of €30,000 to President George Abela as part of Istrina.

Pulling out of their Mercedes E-class, they were ushered towards the stage through a crowd of cheering fans.

“It’s my first time to Malta and I’m very happy to be here,” Hamilton said as the crowd screamed.

“It’s a sad feeling, leaving Mclaren after all these years. I’m going to give it my all next season. I can’t promise victories, but I’ll do my best to get on the podium,” he added.

Hamilton told the crowd that it’s all about ‘raising your game’. “My dad held down four jobs to keep me racing. Those were tough times and there are definitely tough times ahead. I’m glad I’m able to give a little back”.

Lewis Hamilton performed in a McLaren MP4-26 F1 car at 11.30h and then at 14:00h, racing his car up and down the runway at tremendous speeds. The sound echoed throughout the airport grounds.
