Jailed for life after jurors return guilty verdict
Martino Gatt was jailed for life this afternoon after jurors returned a guilty verdict, with seven votes to two, for the murder of Louis Ellul.
The accused fired three shots at Mr Ellul in December 2007 who had just walked out of the Pembroke church after hearing mass with the estranged wife of Mr Gatt.
Mr Gatt and his wife, Joanne Bajada, had separated and she had started a relationship with Mr Ellul.
He was also found guilty of injuring a 14-year old girl by six votes to two and unanimously found guilty of the possession of a firearm and firing in a residential area.
Mr Gatt defended himself during the jury.
