Join the Malta Girl Guides today
Preparations are ongoing for the new Girl Guiding year to start in a few weeks. Joining the Girl Guides is exciting and a great way of making friends while discovering one’s fullest potential by having fun and being active. The guiding year 2013-2014 is the right time to join the MGG as the association will be celebrating its 90th birthday with various exciting activities.
Members are split into five different groups according to age; Dolphins (ages 5 to 7), Brownies (ages 7 to 10), Guides (ages 10 to 13), Rangers (ages 14 to 16), Senior Rangers (ages 17 – 22), Leaders / Adult Members (18 and over).
We develop; self-confidence and self-esteem, sound values, ability to cope with change, appreciation of others, leadership skills, healthy lifestyles, international understanding, commitment and skills in service to other.
These outcomes are developed through the unique educational approach practiced by Girl Guiding. It is values based, non-formal education operating in an intergenerational, global, and multi-cultural environment. Girl Guiding is about meeting new friends, developing an understanding of teamwork and a sense of adventure as well as absorbing the importance of taking part in a wider community and reaching out to make a difference; both locally and globally.
Each section has an adapted and flexible non-formal education programme depending on the members’ ages and abilities. Activities include adventure such as camping and trekking, creativity such as drama, music and crafts, physical development through games and citizenship through various community projects. Activities are not only limited to the local scenario but many Girl Guides travel abroad on either adventurous or self-developmental journeys.
Parents, who would like to enrol their daughters with one of the various locally based groups, are encouraged to get in touch with the association. MGG will help you locate a group near you.
Young and adult women are still in time to join the Malta Girl Guides and volunteer with the association. It’s never too late to rediscover adventure and awaken the child in you! We can help you in your life-long journey into self-discovery and help you to discover and develop many personal talents. The association welcomes and university and sixth form students who wish to volunteer for the Degree Plus Programme or Systems of Knowledge Project.
