Minister of Finance, the Economy and Investment Tonio Fenech said today that Opposition Leader Joseph Muscat has finally offered a sneak peek into his plans for running the country and revealed that if elected, he will freeze the minimum wage.

"This is shocking news. That is why the Nationalist Party has launched a new billboard exposing Dr Muscat's minimum wage freeze. The minimum wage is a crucial baseline that ensures a decent standard of living for workers and their families. By freezing the minimum wage, Muscat will effectively freeze workers' livelihoods, your livelihood, and will disregard changing economic realities," Minister Fenech said.

"But it's not just minimum wage earners who should be concerned. Dr Muscat's minimum wage freeze will impact negatively on all workers, including you and your family. Employers will be less inclined to raise wages across the board. Your lifestyle will take a turn for the worse," he added.

"If we allow Labour to have its way, then it will be the second time that Malta lives under the shadow of a wage freeze. And it will be the second wage freeze brought about by a Labour government and Labour's wrong economic policies. It happened when Labour was in power in the 1980s, and it will happen again if Dr Muscat is voted into power," he continued.

"It's up to us to safeguard our future and our livelihood," Minister Fenech concluded.
