Less Maltese heading to Gozo - GTA
The Gozo Tourism Association (GTA) has stated that low cost airlines have resulted in many Maltese travelling abroad rather than heading over to Gozo.
The GTA is proposing allowing Maltese who spend at least one night in Gozo pay the same Gozo ferry price as Gozitans. The Association would like to note that Gozo has seen a rise in tourism on the whole, with 2011 seeing 8,000 more bed nights than in 2010.
Other proposals by the GTA include a proposed quay in Marsalforn for ferry services to Sicily and more yach berthing facilities around the island.
The Association would also like to see an airlink with Malta re-established and propose further investment in bays and diving facilities. They believe that Gozo should also focus on conference and religious travel as well as agro-tourism.
Lastly, the GTA have called for a vat reduction on accommodation to 5% from 7%.
