Anthony Galea, 49, from Qormi, pleaded not guilty to trying to kill his girlfriend during an argument in Republic Street, Valletta early this morning.

At around 00.30h, Mr Galea allegedly attacked his girlfriend with the intention of killing her, but failed to do so. She escaped with slight injuries.

Mr Galea was also charged with violating bail terms and disturbing the public peace, as well as disobeying police orders and being uncontrollably drunk in public.

Mr Galea pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him, but was remanded in prison.
