Man sent to prison on his birthday
Emanuele Magro, 61, from Naxxar, had a very grim birthday after he was charged with stealing from a parked car in Gzira and sent to prison as he found nobody to provide bail.
Mr Magro was charged with stealing a mobile phone worth €500 and a wallet containing around €60 in cash from Lisa Darmanin Demajo.
Mr Magro was also charged with harbouring stolen goods and relapsing on a previous sentence. Since he lives alone and had nobody to provide the €2,000 sum necessary for bail, Mr Magro was sent to Corradino Corrective Facility, as Magistrate Marseanne Farrugia declared his colourful conduct made him a liability to be let outside.
Lawyer Patrick Valentino appeared for the accused. Prosecution was led by Inspector Saviour Baldacchino.
