The Minister for Transport, Joe Mizzi, has a 'plan B' for public transport should Arriva decide to quit Malta following the lack of agreement with Transport Malta and the Ministry for Transport over the latest route changes.

On Sunday it was reported that Arriva could decide to leave Malta after incurring around €35 million in losses since it started operating in 2011.

Talking on One breakfast this morning, Minister Mizzi said that he was prepared for the eventuality should the case arise. He added that he has proven himself in the past when the bendy buses had to be withdrawn from service and school transport had to be provided.

The Minister explained that routes are the crux of an efficient public transport service and the issue on the new routes proposed was with the implementation in the beginning of next year.
