Mqabba Council embellishes Square
Minister for Justice, Dialogue and the Family Chris Said and Mayor Noel Galea yesterday inaugurated the embellishment of Ġublew tad-Djamanti Square in Mqabba.
Following its announcement to apply for the European Agriculture Funds for Rural Development (EAFRD) and the MEPA permit (PA2334/09) to upgrade the square, the Mqabba local council on March 11, 2011 announced that its project entitled ‘Nippromwovu l-Wirt Kulturali tal-Imqabba’ was awarded €466,813 in EU funding. The remaining 25% of expenditure needed for the project were financed by the Maltese government.
The project included the distribution of leaflets promoting a Heritage Trail walk, directional signage, wi-fi availability and upgrading of the website.
During the construction of the pavement near the Mentna Catacombs, new catacombs were discovered, due to which Patrimonju Kulturali supervised and monitored the contractor’s works ensuring that no damage was done to the catacombs.
The Mqabba local council thanked Transport Malta for road works done at Ġublew tad-Djamanti square connecting Mqabba to Zurrieq, Qrendi and Siggiewi and Architect Anthony Bezzina for his input during this project.
