Policy for visually impaired people should go beyond ramps and pavements, but should instead focus on the mentality of providing a better infrastructure, Opposition Leader Joseph Muscat said in a meeting with Joseph Stafrace and his guide dog.

Muscat said that people with disability should be in the centre of decisions as they are the ones who are most challenged on a day-to-day basis.

The Opposition Leader noted that part of the transport reform included the improvement of services to people with disability.

Joseph Stafrace said that his dog guide changed his life as he can now lead a normal life like everybody else’s.

He urged for more knowledge about accessibility, and asked local councils to be more effective in this area.

He also asked for Government to invest more in guide dogs, as they give people like him an opportunity to live normally.

Also present to this meeting was Opposition Spokesperson for Family, Children and Persons with Disability.
