New day centre at Kirkop
A new day centre for the elderly was this morning officially opened at Kirkop by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and Parliamentary Secretary Mario Galea.
Day Centres brought an important change in the lives of seniors giving the elderly an opportunity to remain active within their community and stay in touch with all that is happening around them.
There are currently 21 operational day centres in Malta that cater for around 2000 people. The first day centre was inaugurated in 1995 in Zejtun and next month will see the opening of another day centre in Mgarr.
Currently these day centres provide services of podology, dance lessons, keep fit classes, use of computers, crafts, talks, bingo and several festivities to celebrate particular seasons like Christmas, Easter and Carnival.
