New programme will see 8,000 people find jobs
8,000 people will find work through the Enhancing Employability through Training Programme, Minister for Education and Work Dolores Cristina revealed this morning.
The Programme, which was also worked on by the Chairperson of the Employment and Training Programme Sandra Sladden, will help Malta produce a capable workforce, the Minister explained. Dolores Cristina said that the Government always made responsible decisions, adding that the PN will continue to look at bringing in strong investment from abroad and will continue to create opportunities for work and training through the ETC.
Over the past few years, the Employment and Training Programme invested in two programmes through EU funding, with the aim of of helping a large number of people find work. A €5 million investment created the Employability Programme and €9 million was invested into the Training Aid Framework. Between 2008 and 2012, 41,000 people were helped by the Employment and Training Programme
In 2002, there were 137,863 people working, which rose to the 152,618 working today the Minister stated. Between 2011-2012 the amount of people in the workforce rose by 2,000.
