Nigerian given 9 years for €72,134 worth of drugs
Nigerian Tony Johnson, 29, was jailed for nine years by Judge Michael Mallia and fined €30,000 after being found guilty of conspiring to traffic one kilo of cocaine in August 2009.
Johnson and an accomplice were arrested by the Police at Ghajn Dwieli, Paola. A bag containing the drug was found in Johnson's car and had a total street value at the time of €72,134. It was revealed that Johnson and a friend, who is also Nigerian, were on their way to buy €20,000 worth of drugs.
The court noted that Johnson had assisted the police after his arrest and resulted in the arraignment of two other persons accused of drug trafficking. The bag that was found to contain 949 grams of cocaine with 33.7% purity.
