One runner dead after Tel-Aviv half -marathon
A 30 year old man has died and a further 30 people were hospitalised after suffering heat stroke and dehydration while running a half marathon in Tel- Aviv, Israel.
The race was run in soaring temperatures that reached 32 degrees. Medical officials said that four people were put in comas while 60 people were treated by ambulances. 12 people were in critical condition following the race, but this has dropped to two.
Participants had complained of dry mouths and difficulty breathing during the race, while others confirmed that they were not used to run in such heat as they usually trained in colder temperatures.
Tel-Aviv officials insisted that the race was allowed to go ahead after consulting with medical professional. Investigations regarding this tragedy will continue.
