Developments in technology are requiring a higher level of literacy in education as well as on the workplace, said Opposition Spokesperson for Education, Evarist Bartolo.

Everyone has the right to have or acquire these basic skills to succeed in life, he added.

The Malta Labour Party recognises the huge challenges teachers will come across at the beginning of yet another scholastic year, to assure that students will indeed have these basic skills.

PL also acknowledges the important role of parents, who play a crucial role in the first years of a toddler’s life.

Lastly, the party knows the importance of a coordinated strategy about literacy, that will encapsulate both the parents’ and the teachers’ efforts with regards to children, Bartolo concluded.
