Permanent employment for Centre of Detention workers
Intensive work from the Government and Public Entities Section within the General Workers Union (GWU) led to the employment of the workers within the Detention Services to become permanent, instead of the previous temporary system of five-year contracts.
Before their employment became permanent, their jobs were considered preciarious. Among other things, the contract they had could be terminated for whatever reason with only a week long prior notification.
While the Section congratulates all these workers, it thanks them for their trust and patience shown throughout this process.
Last week, Secretary Josef Bugeja paid a visit to the Detention Centre to see the dedication of these workers first-hand.
