Polar vortex freezes parts of US and Canada
A polar vortex has literally frozen parts of the US and Canada causing temperatures to plummet well below zero into record low temperatures which are causing havoc to people’s lives.
The blast of cold wind follows a snow storm that blanketed most of Canada and North-Eastern United States.
The weather grounded over 3,000 flights after hundreds of other flights were delayed or cancelled last weekend.
Residents are being advised to remain indoors and schools remained shut to minimise transport problems.
The polar vortex is a circulation of strong winds that normally surround the north pole but which have moved further down south. The vortex can happen in any portion of the Northern Hemisphere including North America, Europe and Asia. Last year, something similar was experienced in Europe when extreme cold air hit the continent.
