Pope Benedict’s last public Mass underway
Pope Benedict XVI is currently holding his last scheduled public Mass, for Ash Wednesday, in St Peter's Basilica, after announcing his resignation.
In his first public appearance after the shocking announcement, he thanked the public for their "love and prayers".
The pontiff had been scheduled to celebrate Ash Wednesday at the small Sant' Anselmo church but the Vatican later said that the change in venue to St. Peter’s Basilica was due to the large amount of people present.
