Pregnant woman accused of importing, trafficking drugs
Michelle Vella, a pregnant 30-year-unemployed from Marsa and her partner Marco Belli, 32, also from Marsa, this morning pleaded not guilty to conspiring to traffic heroin and possession of the drug in circumstances which showed it was not for their exclusive use.
Vella was also accused of importing the drug.
They were granted bail against a €500 deposit each and a €5,000 personal guarantee each by Magistrate Neville Camilleri, who following a Prosecution plea ordered all their assets to be frozen.
Meanwhile two Libyan men, Bashir Ali Mohammed Esgayeir, 32 and Nabil Farhat Kouja, 33, were also accused before the same Magistrate of trafficking and importing the drug. They pleaded guilty and were remanded in custody until the case is closed.
Dr Yana Micallef Stafrace represented the Libyans while Ms Vella u Mr Belli were defended by Dr Joe Giglio.
