Preliminary preparations for EU Presidency 2017 underway
Preliminary talks for the EU Presidency 2017 started today between the Parliamentary Secretary for the EU Presidency 2017 and EU Funds, Dr Ian Borg and State Secretary for Slovakia, Peter Javorcik.
The Slovak Republic will be forming part of a trio of countries that will be presiding over the EU presidency between January 1, 2016, and June 30, 2017. This trio will be made up of the Netherlands, Slovakia and Malta. This meeting helped Malta and Slovakia to exchange ideas on the proposed programme during the forthcoming period.
Dr Borg said that during the duration of the Maltese Presidency, between January 1 and June, 2017, Malta will be looking to build on previous presidencies, including the presidency covered by Slovakia which will be preceding the Maltese Presidency. He said that by doing so, we will be safeguarding continuity, while bringing forward on to Europe’s agenda different issues that can directly impact the Maltese Islands.
