Sport and Culture in 'Swieqi Fest 2014'
For the third year running, the Swieqi Local Council is holding Swieqi Fest, a festival that showcases the importance of sport and culture in the local community. This year’s edition will take place from Saturday to Monday, 6-8 September, with a variety of activities being organised for all ages.
“With such a large, ever-growing community, Swieqi is placing a dual focus on culture and sport in this year’s three-day event over the long weekend of Our Lady of Victories,” Swieqi Mayor Noel Muscat said. “We urge all residents to join us in a relaxed atmosphere where everyone will have fun.”
On the evening of 6 September, Cold Place, the world’s leading tribute band of Coldplay, will kick start the three-day festival at the public garden in Triq il-Keffa, near the Civic Centre. The event starts at 7 p.m., with Alvin Gee entertaining the crowds before the main event.
The focus on Sunday, 7 September, will be on fun for all the family. Kids’ entertainment will be on site near the Civic Centre, including bouncy castle, bungee runs and human fly trap. An art area will be set up, with a number of artists painting on site, and kids will be allowed to join in with painting of their own.
A number of local bands will be performing and the night will conclude with a performance of Quartet ProArte, a string quartet formed by Marcelline Aguis, Nadia Debono, Robert Attard and Simon Abdilla Joslin, who are all members of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.
A Sports Festival will be held on Monday morning from near Tal-Ibrag Parish Church, including running, cycling and Zumba. The Swieqi Handball Cup will be hosted in the afternoon.
To obtain an application form, send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or collect it from the Swieqi Local Council.
In the evening Claudia Faniello, Errol Sammut (Airport Impressions’ lead singer) and Red Electrick will be entertaining the crowd.
