Former Superior-General of the Society of Christian Doctrine, M.U.S.EU.M. Victor Delicata, aged 85, passed away early yesterday morning, at his residence in Mosta.

Victor Delicata was at the helm of the Society of Christian Doctrine since June 1983 after succeeding Cikku Saliba to whom he was an assistant. At the time he was also Superior of the Balzan MUSEUM Branch. Mr Delicata resigned from his post in 2009.

Known with the kids as ‘is-Sup’, he continued the work of his predecessors and opened MUSEUM facilities in Burmarrad, Birkirkara Oratory, Mellieha, Mgarr, Pembroke, San Gwann and St Andrews. He was also instrumental in the introduction of MUSEUM Society on foreign soil namely UK, Sudan, Kenya, Peru and Albania.

The former director of J. Delicata & Sons always greeted those who walked through the company’s shop in St Paul’s Street, Valletta, with his captivating warm smile and heart lifting comments. However it was the drive for the continuous spiritual education of children that occupied the main portion of his day. Reminiscing about the early days of the Society he referred to founder George Preca with particular veneration and he was visibly aglow during the canonisation of the Saint in 2007.

Superior general Victor Delicata will be remembered by thousands of people whose lives he touched through his spiritual charisma.

The Society, which since 2009 has been headed by Natalino Camilleri, has 56 centers for men and 43 for women across Malta and Gozo, together with branches in Australia, Albania, England, Kenya, Peru, Poland and Cuba.
