Ludwig Bugeja, 37, from Cospicua and Anthony Spiteri, 36, from Marsaskala were jailed after being found guilty by Magistrate Miriam Hayman of robbing a shop in Mellieha more than 12-years ago.

Mr Bugeja was jailed for a year and 10 months after he was found guilty of robbing the shop in broad day light and relapsing. Spiteri was jailed for a year and was not found guilty of relapsing because the prosecution did not produce evidence.

Both the accused had had admitted their involvement in the Mellieha robbery with the Police, confirming that they had made away with cash money, a JVC stereo, several bottles of alcohol and money which was meant for tips for the waiters.

Restaurant owner Alexander Vella from Mellieha also testified that the robbers had broken into his property and vandalised the premises.

Prosecution was led by Senior Inspector Paul Bond and Inspector Carmelo Magri.
