Engineer Anthony Camilleri and Ms Rita Schembri were officially sworn in as permanent secretaries within the Office of the Prime Minister.

Their two new roles have been effective since September 5.

Ing. Camilleri, who will be the Permanent Secretary in charge of EU funds, has represented the Ministry of Financial Services on the Board of Authority on workplace safety, and has often been the official envoy for the Maltese government on numerous technical EU and European Council committees.

Ms Schembri, who will be the Permanent Secretary in charge of Governance and Internal Auditing, has held previous positions as Director General of Internal Controls on Public Finance within the Finance Ministry, and Director General of Internal Auditing and Investigations within the Office of the Prime Minister. She is also the Head of Malta’s Auditing Authority on EU funds.

In 2012 she was sworn in as one of five members of a surveillance committee of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) that investigated frauds against EU budgets, corruption and malpractice within EU institutions. She is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta.
