Underwater treasure hunt

An underwater treasure hunt is going to be organised on Sunday, October 21 in aid of Dar tal-Providenza.

The idea that Mikaela Papagiorcopulo came up with is original. “It is a way of promoting diving in Malta,” she told di-ve.com. The promoters of the activity are WorldRecordDivingMalta.com, a website and organisation that works to promote diving in Malta and organises competitive diving and other activities.

Participants have to form a team of four and should be in a possession of an underwater camera. On the day, they will need a car to take them from one site to another. Divers should also have their own diving gear. If they do not, it is recommended that they book the gear in advance. Starfish Diving School at the Corinthia Marina Resort in St George’s Bay will be providing air for diving cylinders for free to the participants.

The day starts early, at 08.00h. The groups of participants are given a book that is divided in four sections. The first section is full of riddles that the divers have to solve in order to find out where the treasures are hidden. Once they find the place, the divers are requested to take some photos. Notes on which photos have to be taken are found in the second part of the book. The third part asks some general knowledge questions about the place. Mikaela Papagiorcopulo said that the answers will be easy to find on location. The fourth part is a bonus round for the participants to gain extra points. Details are not being given yet because "that would spoil the whole thing", Ms Papagiorcopulo said with a smile.

Anyone who would like to participate should email worldrecorddivingmalta@gmail.com by no later than Thursday, October 18. Each participant is required to donate €10. A percentage of the donation will go to the diving school to pay for the air used while the rest will go to Dar tal-Providenza.

The prizes are two weekend breaks for two at the Corinthia San Gorg Hotel; two weekend breaks for two at The Marina Hotel: Corinthia Beach Resort  (both on bed and breakfast basis); a €60 voucher for Ta’ Cassia Salina Restaurant, and various Apeks and Aqualung merchandise courtesy of M&A Diving Supplies Malta.
