Early this morning at around 07.30h, December 14, 1945 Avenue in Fgura resembled the film set of an action movie as a team from the Armed Forces of Malta’s Bomb Disposal Unit arrived on the scene to investigate a parcel that was placed earlier under a vehicle.

Eyewitnesses informed the owner of the van, who immediately called the police. He was concerned that the parcel was indeed a bomb and not just a threat to scare him. It later transpired that the package indeed contained explosives.

On site were members from the Civil Protection Department and a medical team from Mater Dei hospital.

Sources close to the police told di-ve.com that investigating officers had analysed CCTV footage, which allegedly showed people placing the parcel underneath a parked van. The CCTV footage also showed how during their antics, one of the persons lost his balaclava and became recognisable.

During the operation to remove the package, the area was evacuated.
