Update 5: Man shot dead in Kalkara by daughter's former lover, woman in critical condition
A 61-year-old man was shot dead by his daughter's former boyfriend in Kalkara this morning.
His daughter and her five-year-old child were also injured during the shooting.
Initial investigations indicate that an argument erupted between the 61-year-old, identified as John Caruana, and his daughter's former boyfriend, 52-year-old Godwin Scicluna.
Scicluna, and Caruana's 25-year-old daughter had previously been involved in a relationship but have since separated.
The woman was seriously injured during the altercation while the couple's three-year-old daughter was slightly injured. The two have since been hospitalised.
Police said that the incident occurred this morning at around 10:50h in St Leonard Street, Kalkara, near the British cemetery.
Initial information suggests that the argument erupted when the woman took the children to see their father and tempers flared between Caruana and Scicluna at the 61-year-old's residence.
Police said that following the shooting, the woman and her four children took refuge in a neighbouring policeman's home. The off-duty policeman then arrested the aggressor.
Godwin Scicluna has since been arrested and is being held in custody.
Further investigations are ongoing.
