Updated: PM orders tent removal after Day Care reception moved outside
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this evening ordered that a tent set up outside the Day Care Unit at Mater Dei Hospital is removed immediately.
Earlier today, it was known that Mater Dei Hospital was gearing up for the influenza season with a temporary tent set up outside the Day Care Unit to serve as a reception area in the eventuality that more space is required inside to accommodate patients suffering from influenza.
The Hospital’s management was planning to convert the Day Care Unit reception area into a treatment facility to increase the number of patients.
Mater Dei Hospital has been constantly afflicted by a shortage of beds since it opened its doors a few years ago with beds placed in corridors to accommodate as many patients as possible.
The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses (MUMN) this week thanked nurses for working at an overcrowded Mater Dei Hospital and without cancelling one operation. In an open letter to the Minister for Health, Godfrey Farrugia, the MUMN said that the entire nation should be grateful more than usual to nurses working in Mater Dei Hospital.
