AD Chairperson Michael Briguglio said that MEPA should not approve the development of Villa Fieres, which would make the beautiful Spinola area unattractive.

“St. Julian's residents have already been burdened with overdevelopment,” he insisted. AD Deputy Chairman and Spokesman on Sustainable Development and Home Affairs Carmel Cacopardo added that the proposed development dwarfed Spinola Square and was “out of sync with its surroundings.

“Moreover it will generate substantial traffic which will contribute to a lower air quality in the area,” he warned.

AD also pointed out that this development had to be seen together with other large scale development in the area. The cumulative effect of all this development had not only ruined St Julian’s but it was also contributing to the ever increasing amount of vacant dwellings, the Green Party statement concluded.
