Once participants of the 2013 Land Rover Malta Marathon pass through the finish line, they will receive one of 3,000 Subway sandwitches.

"Our idea is to promote healthy eating which is why we thought it would be ideal to be associated with the marathon," said Subway Operations Manager Jonathan Grima. "We will be preparing three different subs: turkey breast, ham and veggie delite, using both wheat bread and white Italian bread."

The Subway franchise has been in Malta for one and a half years, with outlets in Gzira, Paceville and Valletta.

The process of preparing the sandwiches for the marathon will start the day before. The special Subway bread comes to Malta in frozen form, so it first needs eight hours to thaw and then one more hour for the bread to rise. It will then be baked overnight so that it will be fresh for the morning.
