Argentina beats Belgium 1-0, slides into semi-final
Argentina succeeded in sliding into their first World Cup semi-final since finishing in second place in 1990 thanks to a victory of Belgium in Brasilia last night.
The only goal, which was scored during the 90-minute nail-biter, came from Gonzalo Higuain at around 8 minutes into the game. The Estadio Nacional thundered with cheers at the early strike, which ended the players’ unfortunate run of six international games without scoring any goals.
Argentina also celebrated their golden boy, Lionel Messi’s achievement at equalling Diego Maradona’s run in international football. The South American’s overshadowed their European competitors who lacked lustre and concentration throughout the whole game.
