ASM Motorsport pays courtesy visit to Dr Abela
On Monday, September 17, Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi (ASM) officers and championship winners of Ta' Qali Autocross and Motocross National Championships paid a courtesy visit to President George Abela at the San Anton Palace in Attard. A donation on behalf of the Malta Community Chest Fund was presented to Dr Abela during the visit.
Christian Mark Galea and Matthew Borg, champions of Class A and Class B Autocross, together with the youngest motocross rider, Kyle Camilleri, were also present. These drivers were accompanied by ASM President Frans Deguara, ASM Secretary General Johann Pace, Treasurer Edgar Xuereb and Assistant Secretary Francis J. Azzopardi.
The President showed great interest in the motorsport events organised by ASM and invited the association to participate in special events during this year’s edition of "PaqPaqli ghal-Istrina".
Mr Deguara invited Dr Abela to attend the 19th Special Event at Ta' Qali organised by ASM to raise funds for the Malta Community Chest Fund where special autocross, motocross, trials and quadbike races are among the events, as well as the Special Grand Demolition Derby. This event is scheduled for December 23. The invitation was welcomed by Dr Abela, who also personally thanked ASM and its members for the cooperation and assistance during many fund raising events organised at MFCC for MCCF.
The ASM race tracks are currently being refurbished in preparation for the coming ASM National Championships. Extensive works are being carried out, especially on the motocross tracks, to bring them in line with UEM European standards. These works have been made possible through the use of heavy plant machinery provided by the Ministry of Resources and Rural Affairs and Messrs Vella of Central Asphalt Ltd. with the help of Projects Officer Lawrence Darmanin.
The track repairs are expected to be completed in the near future and drivers may be able to commence their training sessions as of next Saturday, September 29. The ASM 2012-2013 National Championships are scheduled to commence on October 7.
