On Sunday, October 7, the ASM will wave the start flag for another series of autocross, motocross, trials and quad bikes national championship races at the ASM Racing Circuits in Ta’ Qali.

The racetracks and spectator areas needed to be refurbished to eliminate damage to the motocross race track, though less work was involved in the autocross track. All major repairs were carried out over the summer. Minor refinishing touches will be completed very soon.

For another consecutive year, ASM and Pasta Poiatti will be sponsoring the new season’s races. The Motocross Championships A and B will be run on eight events while that of autocross will be run on 15 events with three track configurations.

By this time of year, most cars have been refurbished and will be presented in new colours. New driver will be seen on the starters’ list too.

Some of the motocross riders have already done a numbers of hours of practice on the newly modified track. Four riders are expected to compete in the Sicilian F.M.I. Regional Motocross Championship in Siracusa and Agrigento.

New riders are welcome and they will be taught the basic skills of motocross. The trials practical sessions for newcomers are currently held on Saturday afternoons from 15.00h onwards. Tuition for trials bikers are in the hands of John and Edward Bonello, who have extensive experience in trials competitions, both locally and abroad.

Gozo autocross and motocross drivers and riders are expected to participate in Sunday’s event. There are some well-known riders in Gozo who cross the channel to compete in ASM Championship events. Motocross riders compete both in the 125cc and in the 250cc classes, which are almost in line with FMI MX2 specs. This year’s Class A is expected to be highly competitive for riders.

The October 7 event consists of both autocross and motocross races. There will be enough heats to fill the hours from 13.00h to sunset.

Parking for spectators is available for free just outside the premises. Children under 14 years enter for free if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Motocross Class A Riders Clayton Camilleri and Carmel Borg will be running with Numbers 1 and 2, respectively, as they are the present Championship Winner and Runner-up, while numbers 1, 2 & 3 will be displayed on the Autocross Fiat Ritmo of Christian Mark Galea, on the Opel of Patrick Cassar and on the Opel of Emm. Muscat

This first autocross and motocross national championship event is scheduled to start at 13.00h on Sunday, October 7.
