BOV Premier League Statistics for the Season 2013-2014
As the BOV Premier League comes to an end, www.di-ve.com rounds up some figures about the past season.
During the season that have seen Valletta crowned as Champions for the 22nd time in their history, 192 matches have been played. The National Stadium at Ta’ Qali has seen the majority of the matches with 72 clashes, followed by the Victor Tedesco Stadium with 59, 39 matches where played at the Hibernians stadium whilst 22 clashes on the synthetic ground at the Centenary Stadium in Ta’ Qali.
During such clashes the premier has seen 631 goals, 221 in the National Stadium, 196 at Victor Tedesco Stadium, 156 at the Hibernians Stadium and 58 at the Centenary. Such goals came from 149 different players.
During the season 160 matches ended with a win, and 32 at par. Although finishing runners up Birkirkara had the most wins (25) whilst the champions won 24 clashes. Rabat only gained three points from one match against Tarxien, finished at par in 4 clashes while losing the rest 27 matches. Valletta was the less team that did not gain a point from a match. They lost to Hibernians. Birkirkara and Naxxar.
There were 6 matches which ended with a total sum of 8 goals in the 90 minutes. Tarxien vs Qormi on the 1st September. The yellows won the clash 6 -2. Birkirkara scored 7 while Naxxar netted only one in the clash on the 18th January. On the same day Tarxien scored six against the two goals netted by Rabat. Hibs won 5 to 3 against Qormi on the 3rd February. A 4-4 draw has been registered between Balzan and Qormi and on the 19th April Tarxien passed Rabat 7-1.
The biggest goal difference registered in a single match were in 4 matches. Valletta 6 Mosta 0 on the 24th November. Birkirkara won 7-1 over Naxxar. Birkirkara won against Sliema 6 – 0, and Tarxien vs Rabat 7-1.
Hibernians have netted the ball most with 77 goals or 2.4 goals per match. Rabat Ajax have conceded the most goals 91 or 2.8 per match. The best defense was that of Vallettta with only 21 goals conceded. The best Goal difference was Valletta with an aggregate of 53 goals whilst Rabat were worse with an aggregate of -68 goals.
The national league has seen 209 goals scored by Maltese nationals while the rest 414 came from foreigners. With the remaining 8 goals coming from own goals. 58% (367 goals) where scored in the second half while the remaining 264 goals where netted in the first half. Out of the 631 goals 71 where netted directly from a penalty kick.
Players punished with a red card (or double yellow) for misbehavior during a match where 72. Tarxien had the most expelled players during a match, an average of 1 red card (or double yellow) for every 3.2, while Floriana had only two players sent off during a match during the whole season. (This data does not include players who were dismissed from a match or more after accumulating 4 yellow cards). Clifford Gatt Baldacchino (Sliema Wanderers) and Jose Felipe Aguiar (Vittoriosa Stars) where the most sent off players during the league with three red cards each.
