Electric Formula 1 set for 2014
Formula E, the electric car version of Formula 1 is set to take the world by storm in 2014.
The organisers, Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), hope that the zero-emission cars will bring forth the future of racing, with races to be held in city locations which were previously unavailable to Formula 1 due to both noise and environmental pollution. There is a common misconception that electric cars are slow, however the event organisers have said otherwise, with the practical top speed of around 170 or 180mph (290 km/h).
“We are convinced that the future of auto motion, particularly in cities, is electric”, CEO of Formula E Holdings Alejandro Agag said. “The promotion of clean mobility and sustainability is a priority for the FIA, so joining forces to set up the first sustainable global motorsport championship is a great opportunity for us.”
