Malta achieves best ever record at World Bowls Championships
For the first time in its history, Malta has reached the semi-finals at the World Bowls – Champion of Champions Competition held in Cyprus during the weekend.
Carmen Spiteri, the female representative of Malta, secured the 4th overall placing in a tournament which included 25 countries from all over the globe.
She lost the semi-final to Sandra Keith of New Zealnd. Ms Keith ended up as the Women’s Champion of Champions 2012. Carmen Spiteri had beaten Sandra Keith in the 5th round of the games.
Malta defeated Macao, Brazil, New Zealand, Australia, Cook Islands, Swaziland and Namibia in the process.
Carmen Spiteri has been living in Australia for the last 40 years and will be arriving in Malta this week with the intention of taking part in exhibition matches and media events.
Malta was also presented at the Men’s Finals through Lennard Callus, who only managed the 17th position in the final rankings. The men’s title went to Malaysia.
The Malta team was under the direction of Ambassador Anthony Debono who is the President of the Malta Lawn Bowls Federation.
