Malta to take part in the 2014 EBSA European Team Snooker Championships
Malta will be taking part in the 2014 EBSA European Team Snooker Championships which will be played between this Sunday and Saturday 29th March. The championships will be played on 16 tables at the Hotel Caro, Bucharest in Romania.
There are three categories in these championships, those for the Ladies, Men and Masters (Over 40). Malta will be participating in the Men’s event with Team Malta composed of local champion Duncan Bezzina and No. 1 ranked player Alex Borg. This year there has been a change in the format of the Men’s event when in previous editions teams were made up of three players. Malta has won these championships in 2004 and 2005.
A record 69 teams from 20 countries will compete in the three categories with 37 taking part in the Men’s event. The 37 teams were drawn into six groups of six or seven teams with the top four in each group qualifying into the last 24 knock-out stages. Team Malta was drawn to play in Group C which includes Wales, Romania, Israel, Germany and Bulgaria. Matches in the round robin stages will be over the best of 5 frames.
