Matthew Gauci wins Torri Falka Enduro race

Matthew Gauci onboard a Yamaha 250cc, won the recently organised Enduro Race at ‘Torri Falka’ held on Sunday March 3. Matthew Gauci registered an overall time of 4. 53.90sec.

Organised by Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi (ASMK), the first Moto Enduro race of its kind at Ta’ Qali saw 49 Enduro bikers participate in this race. The bikers were split into two classes according to the engine capacity and each group followed a leader along the route and was given free practice laps as a safety measure. They had to ride up and down steep slopes and ridges on route together with natural obstacles in the way.

During the first timed run for under 250cc biker Wayne Zahra on his Yamaha registered best time of 5.27.47sec. Terence Azzopardi on a 250cc Kawasaki placed second with 5.28.22sec., but during the second timed run, Azzopardi improved his time and clocked 5.18.13sec. and won Class A ahead of Wayne Zahra. Keith Schembri placed third on his KTM with 5.34.87sec.

Class B saw the more powerful Enduro machines of over 250 cc and up to 530cc engines. James Zahra who also competes in Autocross and Trials, registered the best time in the first timed run. Riding a Suzuki, James registered 5. 11.32 sec. John Attard on a KTM registered the second best time of 5.12.47sec and Matthew Salomon on his KTM 530cc registered 5.16.66sec.

Surprisingly Matthew Gauci on a Yamaha registered a run of 4.53.90sec. Gary Debono on a Montesa 280cc followed with 4.58.56sec., and Alex Sant Fornier on a KTM 450cc did his run in 4.58.75sec.

During the Presentation of Trophies sponsored by Torco, the ASMK President said that ASMK will continue its efforts to organise more events in various locations. He also thanked the owner of Torri Falka quarry and Director of Hardrocks Ltd Paul Xuereb, together with sponsors DUNLOP, KTM, Gordon’s Moto Centre, Torco and Autologic Performance Centre. ASMK expressed its satisfaction that all permits were granted by the respective planning authorities.

The next events will be held at the ASMK race Circuits at Ta Qali on Sunday March 17 starting at 11:00h.
