Michael Mifsud signs for Melbourne Hearts
Malta captain and international striker Michael Mifsud was presented by Melbourne Hearts this morning as the team prepare for the 2013-2014 season.
The signing of Mifsud had been widely anticipated as the striker flew to Australia a few days ago for a medical. He joined Melbourne on a free transfer having become a free agent after his latest stint with Valletta last season.
“Michael has scored goals at whatever level he has played at,” Melbourne Heart FC Head Coach John Aloisi said. “He is an exciting footballer and will be a dynamic influence in our attack.
“As the captain of Malta, he has played against the very best teams in the world and held his own. It’s not easy to lead the line against the likes of Italy and Croatia, and test those defences, something which he has done regularly,” added Mr Aloisi.
Mifsud will wear the number 11 and is the 23rd player on the Club’s Roster.
Mifsud, capped 96 times by Malta, has played for Kaiserslautern, Lillestrom and Coventry City in the past. With Coventry he scored to eliminate Manchester United out of the League Cup in 2007-2008 season.
