Qatar World Cup moved to winter 2022
The 2022 World Cup in Qatar could be played between November 15 and January 15 according to a surprise declaration made today by FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke.
Speaking on French radio, Mr Valcke said that the Qatar World Cup could be played in the European winter when the temperatures in Qatar are more ideal for playing football.
The World Cup is usually held between June and July and moving it to November could play havoc to European football leagues and the Champion’s League.
The final decision on the date of the Qatar World Cup is expected to be taken during the FIFA Executive Committee meeting scheduled for March 21 and 22.
