Under-19 women’s team heads off to UEFA Championship
The Under 19s women’s team, under the direction of coach Mark Gatt, have departed for the upcoming UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship Qualifying round 1, Mini tournament in Serbia.
Under the tutelage of coach Gatt, the team has been training for the past ten weeks. The final squad was chosen only last Friday as the team was trimmed down to 18 players.
The coaching staff faced a pleasant headache as all players showed significant improvement and dedication particularly the three goalkeepers who showed great progress during preparations.
Coach Gatt said: “We played five friendlies, during which the team showed steady improvement and I am happy with every single player “.
On a sad note, the team lost its captain, Michelle Zuber due to an injury and will not be travelling with the group. Vice-captain Brenda Borg will now replace her, with Shona Zammit as vice-captain.
Coach Mark added: “Our main aim will remain the same, which is to gain respect from our opponents and work hard to achieve positive results. This will serve as an experience for me and the whole staff.”
The under-19 women’s team will face hosts Serbia on September 21 and will also face the Netherlands and Bosnia and Herzegovina on September 23 and 26 respectively.
