A quiz where Google is allowed

You have always thought that Google will give you the answer to any question in a matter of seconds at the click of a button. And rightly so. Whilst in 0.65 seconds, Google provides 4,710,000 results for ‘colours of the rainbow’, in 0.26 seconds, Google gives about 492,000,000 results for the question “What is the Meaning of Life?” Such results in such short periods of time has caused much inconvenience in situations where a certain amount of knowledge is necessary, such as during tests, or in trivia quizzes.

However, since Google is more often than not banned from trivia games, they have come up with a quiz of their own in which Google is allowed. The quiz is called ‘A google a day’ and using Google as a search tool is what the challenge is all about. For once, an answer to a question cannot be found merely at the click of a button. Combining brain power and Google’s search facilities, you must use your head to help you to search.

Each day, a question, which is selected from various categories, is posed, and is meant to be answered with nothing but savvy searching skills. It is up to the player which way to tackle the question, there are hundreds of ways of doing so, but there is only one answer to each question.

The following are examples of the questions which are asked:

I demanded gold, silver, silk robes and 3,000 pounds of what exotic spice when I laid siege to Imperial Rome?

On the continent with both Mawson and Davis time zones, you’ll find 70% of the world’s… what?

Where do you live if the name of your state’s official gemstone is derived from the Greek for “not drunken”?

As one can tell, the questions diverge from normal trivia questions with the fact that you cannot simply type in the question in the Google search bar to get the answer. You have to tackle the answer from different angles.

The faster you search, the more points you score so being creative in your search is part of the challenge. Unlock badges for search prizes, then share scores with friends on Google Plus. Your head plus search, 24 hours a day, against your friends.
