MHRA welcomes new routes
The Malta Hotel and Restaurants Authority welcomed the news of Ryanair's launch of three new routes from Malta.
The new routes: Bergamo, Liverpool and Gothenburg, will mean 12 extra flights a week that translate to 15% growth in the airline’s capacity, with the airline estimating an extra 60,000 tourists flying to the island next year, a statement from the Authority read.
The MHRA also welcomed the news that Air Malta, through a 25% reduction in its winter tickets has increased its sales by 5,000 seats equal to 69% when compared to the same period last year.
The statement continued that Air Baltic will be having a regular weekly flight from Riga capital city of Latvia which makes this the second Baltic state to be connected to Malta.
MHRA President Tony Zahra, said that “All this is positive news and very encouraging for all tourism players and indeed the country, as it comes at a time when the industry is concerned about the potential negative effects on tourism as a result of the economic pressures prevailing in Europe, which represents Malta's main source markets.”
